Statement from Michael Bourque, President and CEO, Fertilizer Canada
“The announcement by Minister Steven MacKinnon on the Port of Vancouver Gateway Strategy to diversify trade and double exports is a positive step toward strengthening Canada’s trade infrastructure. The Vancouver corridor is a critical gateway for Canada’s economy, including fertilizer exports. In 2025, approximately 14 million tonnes of fertilizer moved through the Port of Vancouver, a 21 per cent increase over 2024, representing roughly 10 per cent of the port’s total outbound cargo volume. Potash accounted for approximately 75 per cent of those fertilizer exports.”
“Achieving the Strategy’s objectives will require sustained investment in both port and rail infrastructure to improve capacity, reliability, and access to global markets, including the Indo-Pacific region. Fertilizer Canada looks forward to working with the federal government to advance infrastructure investments that strengthen Canada’s supply chains, expand export opportunities, and support long-term economic growth.”
