Fertilizer Canada’s Response to COVID-19

The sun will come out tomorrow.

A Stronger Recovery with Canadian Fertilizer

Fertilizer Canada has been working diligently to ensure the government, stakeholders and media are aware that our industry is doing everything possible to ensure farmers receive essential fertilizer products in time for spring seeding in April and May, while protecting employees and the public from COVID-19.

  • We serve Canadians by delivering critical fertilizer globally. We remain an essential resource to feed the world today and in the future.
  • As we recover from this global crisis, Canadian fertilizer is essential for the secure and reliable growth of food in Canada and around the world.
  • Canadian fertilizer provides nutrients that crops here and around the world need to keep growing.
  • Canada depends on us to support 76,000 jobs and sustainable food supply chains. Canadian fertilizer production today ensures future harvests will feed our recovering world.
  • Canadian fertilizer is shipped to over 75 countries around the world and contributes $24 billion annually to our economy.
  • Last year, 12% of the global food supply depended on Canadian fertilizers. To recover from this crisis the world needs a sustainable, secure supply of fertilizer critical to crops.
  • Without fertilizer, global food production would be cut in half. Fertilizer is key to growing the food that a recovering world will depend on.

Fertilizer Canada request to delay deadline for nitrogen stabilizers registration packages

Please distribute to all your members that will be affected by this decision:

(Le texte français suit le texte anglais)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is very aware of the disruptions COVID-19 pandemic is having across the supply chain around the globe including staff shortages, data collection and analysis capacity gaps and laboratory availability and is working diligently to maintain critical services . In light of these challenges we are extending the deadline for submitting data packages and applications for registration of urease and nitrification inhibitors by 120 days (3 months) till September 30th 2020. Should the crisis situation not be resolved by then the decision can be revisited at that time.

In the meantime, nitrification and urease inhibitor products currently on the market that are not currently registered will not be subject to compliance and enforcement activities

Stay safe and all the best during these trying times

Kind regards

Cordialement,

Ewa Madey PhD.
