Response to the consultation on the priorities and work of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

Feeding the world using climate-smart agriculture is a priority for Fertilizer Canada. The 4R Nutrient Stewardship Best Management Practices and the Nitrous Oxide Emissions Reduction Protocol (NERP) were developed to maximize fertilizer’s environmental and economic performance. Fertilizer Canada continues to advocate for the formal adoption of the 4Rs and NERP to federal, provincial and international governing bodies.

On April 12, Fertilizer Canada submitted a consultation on the priorities and work of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to Environment Canada, recommending the federal government adopt and promote the 4R Nutrient Stewardship program as a solution to help increase agricultural productivity and protect water quality in developing countries, and to support and promote NERP as a solution to help integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning.
