"Soil Your Undies" during National Soil Conservation Week

National Soil Conservation Week, from April 16 to 22, is an opportunity to talk about the importance of soil health and soil science as the foundation of sustainable agriculture.
Last week, on April 10, the Soil Conservation Council of Canada (SCCC) launched their entertaining “Soil Your Undies” campaign by burying several pairs of 100 per cent cotton underwear underground as an experiment to demonstrate the flurry of activity that is happening constantly just beneath the surface of the Earth. In a few months, when the underwear are unearthed, they should be almost completely decomposed by soil-dwelling organisms.
The SCCC encourages soil enthusiasts both young and old to try the “Soil Your Undies” experiment for themselves to witness firsthand the amount of activity that happens in soil.
Fertilizer Canada is supportive of National Soil Conservation Week as a way to highlight the importance of maintaining and improving soil health year round. Using 4R Nutrient Stewardship (Right Source @ Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place®), growers can create nutrient management plans to tailor fertilizer application and optimize soil health.
