Fertilizer Canada is pleased to have this opportunity to provide input on the planned Investment Tax Credit for Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS). CCUS is a promising technology with the potential to deliver real emission reductions in the near to medium term. We were pleased that the Government of Canada’s Budget 2021 recognized that certain sectors, including ours, face challenges in implementing emissions-reducing technologies due to our status as an energy-intensive, trade-exposed industry. A well-designed investment tax credit in coordination with other policy and regulatory supports could drive the widespread adoption of CCUS technology in our industry.
