Fertilizer Canada response to Quebec Extended Producer Responsibility for Agricultural Products.

The Government of Quebec has introduced draft regulations for extended producer responsibility for agricultural products. The proposed changes include extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs for fertilizer packaging as well as residual fertilizer products, meaning that, if the proposed regulations move forward unchanged, obligated fertilizer suppliers in Quebec would be required to fund/operate a collection and disposal or recycling program for product packaging and leftover fertilizer from agricultural operations.

Fertilizer Canada has submitted a response to the consultation urging the provincial government to remove the requirement to establish a collection program for unwanted agricultural fertilizer, as it is unlikely that farmers would be disposing of fertilizer products. Further, the response highlights the work that Fertilizer Canada has done on the 4R program in Quebec.
