Fertilizer Canada supports Alberta’s petrochemicals program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 3, 2020

OTTAWA, ON – Fertilizer Canada welcomes the Albertan government’s recent launch of the Alberta Petrochemicals Incentive Program (APIP) as part of the province’s Recovery Plan and the Natural Gas Vision and Strategy. The program will help support the province’s economic diversity, of which the fertilizer industry will continue to play a major role.

“Fertilizer is a globally-traded commodity, and we call on all provincial governments to invest in long-term programs like APIP and invest in our industry’s competitiveness,” said Garth Whyte, President and CEO of Fertilizer Canada. “Fertilizer is a rapidly expanding industry, and this is a tremendous opportunity to capitalize on the growing global petrochemical sector and to diversify Alberta’s economy while ensuring a competitive business environment.”

Programs like the APIP will attract significant global investment into not only Alberta’s economy, but Canada’s as a whole. The fertilizer industry, a major consumer of natural gas, has met the needs of Canadian farmers throughout COVID-19 and will continue to play a critical role in ensuring farmers around the world have access to reliable and sustainable fertilizer products.
